About Our Products

Communi-Kit has created a variety of therapy kits based on therapist, teacher and parents request, interest and needs. Although each kit has a specific objective in mind, you will notice that they were designed to include many different activities. The following kits are available for purchase.

*Category Kit- This kit includes 42 small early vocabulary objects. There are so many things to do with these objects including categorizing, labeling objects, identifying objects, following directions, object function, and more! The items in each kit range from simple small objects to fun objects that 'do things'. Examples of some items may include: finger puppets, real working vehicles, letter blocks, magnets, spring shapes, working musical instruments, and pop up animals. This kit contains laminated sheets and category labels to help children visually see the category label.

*Articulation Kits- There are a variety of articulation kits to help children establish correct production of sounds in a novel way instead of the traditional articulation drills. Each kit includes between 20-30 objects and corresponding articulation cards. Many of the items in the kit actually perform an action of some sort so children can have fun while learning! In addition to working on articulation, there are many other things that can be done with these kits including: labeling objects, identifying objects, identifying pictures (try a bean bag toss onto the pictures to make therapy more exciting!), providing object function ("What do you do with a ____?), matching objects to pictures, following directions (i.e. put the hamburger in the cup and the corn in the bowl) What is special about this kit? You can target articulation skills while having FUN!

*Big and Little Object Kit- This kit includes a variety of early vocabulary objects that are both big and small. There are so many things to do with these objects including labeling, identifying objects, object function, targeting prepositions (i.e. put the big comb under/on the chair), matching objects to pictures, and more! You will receive a total of twenty objects, ten large objects and ten small objects as well as two sheets to categorize the objects. Objects come in a quality plastic storage container.

*Sensory Ball Kit with Picture Exchange- You will get 13 sensory balls as well as a laminated/velcroed picture exchange board corresponding with the balls in the kit. .

Why use balls?

  • use as a communication temptation to elicit language by presenting just one ball and having child say, sign or use a picture to request another ball.
  • work on early bilabial sound “b” for “ball” and “bounce”.
  • teach adjectives to describe textures…soft, hard, squishy, bumpy.
  • use light-up ball for focusing .
  • use squeeze ball to help control ‘fidgits’ to help child focus on other activities.
  • present box closed to have child request “open” .
  • gives tactile feedback for children with sensory integration needs .
  • teaches imitations of actions, as this is a precursor to speech development including “bounce”, “roll”, “throw”, “spin”, “pull” and “pop” .
  • use no-bounce balls to throw on vocabulary words to identify pictures.
  • categorize balls by the way they feel.
  • work on sizes...big, medium, small.
  • Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
  • Need more ideas? Ask a child.

***You may also purchase Sensory Ball Kit without the picture exchange.

Why use wind-up toys?

Most small children lack the motor skills to operate wind-up toys so they have to request “help”. This provides an opportunity for the adult to manipulate the child’s environment until the child communicates his/her desire to operate the wind-up toy. If a child does not yet use the word “help”, they can use picture exchange, eye contact, or a similar word or word approximation (i.e. go, jump). Another great communication goal to target while using wind-up toys is “more” because children almost always want to see more! Again, this can be targeted by picture exchange, verbalizations or simple signs. Wind-up toys are also great for verbal children because they teach a variety of vocabulary, can be used as reinforcers  for other activities, and teach action words (jumping, swimming, walking, flipping, crawling, riding, etc.).
